Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest

Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest was established in the year 1905 in Montana, USA and it is governed by the U.S. Forest Service. Beaverhead- Deerlodge National Forest is one of the oldest National Forests. The forest is 3.36 million acres in area and is spread across eight counties in the south-western area of Montana.
The two forests were named by President Roosevelt in the year of 1908. These two forests were later merged in 1996. The reserve was originally called the Big Hole forest reserve. It was made out of the fear of a company- Anaconda Copper Mining, which was clearing the upper Big Hole river watershed.

The forest is a wonderful place for recreational purposes. Additionally the forest has got an abundance of timber, minerals and grazing land. The park every kind of recreation from wilderness trekking in the wilderness of the Anaconda-Pintler or Lee Metcalf to driving in the Pioneer Mountains scenic byway or Gravelly road range.

You can also camp if you wish as the park provides fifty medium sized campgrounds in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge forest. There are a variety of things to do especially during the winter season. Cross country skiing, downhill skiing and snowmobiling can be done by winter enthusiasts at Discovery, near Anaconda and Maverick Mountain, near Dillon.

The summer season offers hiking and driving across primitive routes to the lakes situated in the high mountains through improved roads in places like Delmoe and Wade lakes. The Beaverhead- Deerlodge National forest has been conserved for over a century.
