Flathead Lake State Park

Flathead Lake State Park stretches across twenty eight miles and is fifteen miles in width. It is known to be the largest freshwater lake of natural origin in the western half of U.S. The Flathead Natural Lake is famous as it is renowned for fishing.

A huge variety of wild animals can be found in the western side of the lake called Wild Horse Island. This island is 2,163 acres in size and is home to eagles, sheep with big horns and wild horses. The Flathead National State Park is situated on the parks Big Arm Bay.

Flathead National State Park serves as a popular point from where it is easy to travel to the famous Wild Horse Island. Those who love to sunbathe and swim generally love long pebble beach of Big Arm Bay. Ponderosa Pine and Juniper are two very common kinds of trees found in this region. Camping under these trees is a major source of attraction for campers.

Other recreational activities that can be performed are: fishing (an abundance of lake trout can be found here), board sailing, scuba diving, water-skiing and scuba diving. This site is spread across 55 acres and is elevated from sea level at 2,967 feet. Flathead Lake State Park has all the useful amenities such as flush toilets and vault toilets, grills, firewood, trash cans, fresh water for drinking as well as other programs.

Recreational vehicle or trailer sizes are limited to a maximum of 30 feet in this park. The Big Arm unit of the Flathead Lake State Park also can provide you with a Yurt that is 20 feet in width and 10 feet in height. It gives you the most exquisite circular camping comfort.
